Jacobs provided EPCM and modular construction services for Merck to expand their existing vaccine manufacturing facility in Durham, NC.

The $315 million program of projects included the addition of a new 214,000 square-foot Bulk Manufacturing Facility along with expansions to their existing operating GMP warehouse, energy center and LEEDS silver certified office buildings.

Early risk analysis gave the project less than a 3% chance of success of meeting the schedule. However, using innovative design and modular construction techniques, the project broke the biotech industry schedule benchmark for completion of a large-scale vaccine manufacturing facility from charter to operational qualification by 16 months.
