Deep Creek Watershed Dam 5D is a new 72-foot high dam constructed for flood control and future water supply for Yadkin County. The high-hazard dam is a composite structure consisting of a 742-foot roller-compacted concrete (RCC) section and a 750-foot zoned earth embankment.
Schnabel conducted subsurface investigations to establish the most cost-effective dam and spillway system and performed a comprehensive evaluation of twelve alternative dam types/configurations. The second phase included design of the proposed dam and preparation of contract documents.
During construction, Schnabel provided contract administration, a resident project representative, and full-time quality assurance testing services.
