CDM, Catawba County, and Appalachian State University worked collaboratively to complete the Biodiesel Research Facility (BRF) component of the EcoComplex, a sustainable "green" energy business and research park under development at the County’s Blackburn Landfill. The LEED Silver BRF allows researchers to use different feed crops and production methods to generate biodiesel mixtures, which will be tested for efficiency and effectiveness as a gasoline substitute. The purpose of this research is to generate results that spur development of a new alternative fuel industry in North Carolina, which will provide opportunities for farmers and other workers.
